Rugs: All our rugs are hand woven in the traditional
Tibetan manner, with several weavers working across
the width of the piece. Our yarns are spun by hand
on wheels or drop-spindles, supporting a traditional
village craft.
Fibers: We our source all-wool, wool
and silk, hemp, and
banana yarns and
fiber. We can blend any combination of these fibers
as preferred. Our wool comes from both Tibet and New
Zealand, allowing blending for maximum durability, sheen
and color saturation.
Colors: Chemical dyes cover the entire spectrum
and can be precisely reproduced. Traditional vegetable
dyes are available with good accuracy of match,
within the broad range of natural materials found
in Nepal, India and Tibet. Under normal conditions
chemical dyes hold their color, while most vegetable
dyes are fast though some may drift.
Rug texture and size: We weave rugs in 60,
80, 100 and 120 knots per square inch. Yarns are plied
for richer color and increased durability, producing
240, 320, 600, 720 cut ends per inch, respectively.
Higher counts allow more intricate designs. Depth
of pile can vary for ease of walking and luxuriance.
